Niantic - Richard W.
Bartlett, 67, of Morton Street, died
Friday, Aug. 26, 2005 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 19,
1938, in Evanston, Ill., the son of Raymond and Evelyn
Merrill Bartlett.
On Sept. 21, 1963,
Richard married Ann Louise Pfeifer in Springfield,
Mass.
Richard was a
graduate of Saint Lawrence University where he majored in sociology. He
continued to further his education throughout his career.
After serving in the
U.S. Army Military Police, Richard joined Naval Criminal Investigative
Service (NCIS) as a special agent. He had assignments in New
York City, New London, Naples, Italy
and Brunswick, Maine. In Boston,
Mass., he was special agent in charge with
responsibilities for Massachusetts and all
northern New England.
In 1997, after
retiring from NCIS, Richard joined the New London Sheriffs Department. He
held positions in numerous courts. In 1999 the Sheriff's Department became
the Judicial Marshall's Service and Richard continued to work for the State
of Connecticut.
Richard enjoyed
sailing, golfing, skiing and sports of all kinds. He was a life long member
of the Niantic Bay Yacht Club, serving several years on the Club's Yearbook
Committee. He also was a member of the American Legion in Niantic.
He is survived by his
wife, Ann; daughter, Christine; brother, Raymond; niece, Claudine; and
nephew, Brett.
There will be a
private burial. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005 at
10:30 a.m. at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Lake Avenue, Niantic.
