NBYC - updated race committee duty schedule

There has been some confusion on the race committee duty schedule this year.  The yearbook printer accidentally re-printed the 2006 schedule which is the schedule bound into your yearbook.  That is obviously no good this year.  To correct that we inserted a revision as a loose page in your yearbook.  Hopefully you got that.  However that still isn’t 100%.  We were advised of some conflicts and tried to accommodate those by further updating the schedule.  You should have gotten that updated version in your June newsletter.  It is also reprinted below and is posted on the club bulletin board.  There is some additional helpful information at the bottom of this schedule.

Tina Bettera and Doris Musick are usually available to help out Wednesday nights.  They are both very experienced and helpful with timing, etc.  Their names are not listed below and you should check with them to be sure they will be on board for your Wednesday night duty.  If they cannot make it be sure you find someone capable of doing timing!

Sorry about the confusion and we hope this sets the record straight.

Due to our volunteer mode of staffing, most of you

are far more comfortable participating in a race

than running one. Don't despair, there is help to be

had right there on the water. There are some very

experienced people skippering and crewing on the boats

you are setting a course for. Pick a boat to work with and

use them as your on the course eyes to help determine

wind direction, set of the line and where to place

the windward mark. Before you set out, you should

arrange with the skipper you wish to work with to be the

on the course assistant. Then if you need help setting

marks ask them to come near the RC boat, go head to wind

and give you a read on course and start line directions.

The experienced skippers will be glad to give you a hand

as it benefits them by setting a fair course. By choosing

one to work with it may help your peace of mind by reducing

the number of people putting in their 2 cents worth.

Actually it won't but you will be able to filter out

some of the extraneous comments that come drifting across

the waters.
