NBYC has hosted this course at our club in
the past but is not doing that this year. For anyone interested, there will be a US Sailing Basic
Race Management Seminar at Riverside YC on April 12. It has been posted to the

Race Management Seminar Riverside
Yacht Club Riverside Yacht Club, the YRA of Long Island Sound and the US Sailing
Race Management Committee are sponsoring a one-day Race Management Seminar on
April 12, 2008 from 0800-1700 at the Riverside YC Club House, 102 Club Road, Riverside,
CT 06878. Bill Kirkpatrick will be the lead instructor. Bill is a US Sailing
National Race Officer, recognized Senior Race Officer, Area B Race Officer and
YRA of LIS Race Management Committee chair. He is an experienced seminar
leader, and he will be assisted by Linda Kirkpatrick, a US Sailing Club Race
Officer and experienced seminar instructor. The seminar will cover Race Committee objectives, competition formats,
sailing instructions, RC jobs, RC equipment, race-day preparations, setting the
course, starts, finishing, post-race RC responsibilities and scoring. At the seminar you will need your own copy of The Racing Rules of
Sailing (“RRS”). The complete list of seminar participant
material, including the seminar study questions used to prepare for the seminar

Please bring your completed study questions to the seminar. The Club Race Officer certification test, which is given at the
conclusion of the seminar, is optional. The seminar fee ($45 for US Sailing members and $70 for non-members)
includes continental breakfast, lunch and all workshop materials. On-line
